Product Description

SKU: LN1162

Composed of refined beeswax and hard castor wax, Langridge Encaustic Wax enables artists to fully explore the possibilities of Encaustic painting techniques.
250gm bar, divided into 5 x 50gm bricks that can be individually snapped off for easy measuring when used in the studio.

Langridge incorporates Castor Wax to raise the melting temperature to make the wax less susceptible to heat damage, making it more durable. The hard wax also allows the encaustic to be polished to a high gloss, giving it more depth and intensity.
Castor Wax is pure and translucent and unlike recipes with damar resin does not yellow with time.
It can be used to extend existing encaustic colours, to create transparent glazes or on its own for creating translucent layers.

Generally encaustic wax is coloured with pigments or concentrated oil paint but it may be used untinted to produce beautiful opalescent translucent films. Encaustic wax is traditionally applied to an inflexible surface - usually braced timber panels, but in recent years, with further exploration by contemporary artists, it may be applied to more flexible surfaces such as paper and canvas.
