Originally from a small town in rural Southland, I moved up to Tāmaki Makaurau in 2015 to study at Auckland’s Elam School of Fine Arts — and it’s fair to say, I’m here to stay.

 

In addition to my role at Gordon Harris, I’m a practicing artist, exhibiting work locally and painting every day. I bring to the store a diverse skill set and a strong knowledge of materials, with a foundation in painting, gilding, canvas stretching, and drawing.

 

I love passing on what I’ve learned to our customers — and learning from them in turn. Seeing the creative ways people use our products is one of the highlights of the job.

 

The Symonds Street store, while one of the smaller Gordon Harris locations, is hugely dynamic. We work hard to meet the varied needs of university and school students in Auckland’s busy CBD.

 

We cater to professional artists, illustrators, tattoo artists, designers, signwriters, model-makers, hobbyists — even the seasonal watercolour classes that wander up from cruise ships in the harbour during summer. In short: anyone with a creative project or pursuit.

 

Whether you’re after a Russian blue squirrel watercolour brush, metallic polymer modelling clay, a squeegee, or alcohol ink, the team at Symonds Street will do our best to help — with friendly, expert advice and top-quality products from leading local and international brands.
