macs mud clay mb2 buff

The newly reformulated Mac’s Mud Buff (MB2) is a traditional, iron-bearing, plastic midfire clay body made from 100% New Zealand clays. It offers excellent throwing and handbuilding properties, ideal for both small and large-scale work.

What’s changed?

MB2 has a few key differences compared to the original Mac’s Buff:
- Slightly higher shrinkage
- More vitreous at cone 6
- Increased thermal expansion for improved glaze fit

Note: Due to the more vitreous nature of MB2, firing above cone 8 may result in warping or bloating. We recommend testing for your specific application.

- Mesh size 50
- Dry shrinkage 5-6%
- Cone 5 - Total shrinkage 12-13 %, Absorption 1.5-2.5%
- Cone 6 – Total shrinkage 12-13%, Absorption 1-1.5%
- Cone 7 – Total shrinkage 12.5-13%, Absorption 0.5-1%
- Cone 8 – Total shrinkage 12.5-13%, Absorption 0.3-0.5%

Recommended Firing Range 1220 to 1280 degrees
