Hobby brushes are robust yet soft, with typical German manufacture ensuring they last longer than many other similar priced brushes. They have a clean, sharp shape and respond well to the artist’s movements. Hobby brushes are best suited to painting with soft and fluid consistency colours.
Finding that a flat brush left its shape in the wet paint, painters after the perfect blend came up with the filbert in the second half of the 19th Century. The filbert is perhaps the most versatile brush shape, being a combination of a flat and a round. While designed for blending, it can also spread colour, draw, and is excellent for cutting-in.
